After New Delhi the capital of India , Mumbai is the most important city. The glittering and bustling Mumbai is the largest metropolis as well as the financial, commercial, industrial and is celluloid hub. Mumbai is rightly called the Indian Hollywood. Popularly known as Bollywood, the film industry in Mumbai produces 300-400 films a year. It is the only nearest contestant to Hollywood . What Beverly Hills is to Hollywood , Malabar Hills is to Bollywood where the actors enjoying their god-like statuses. Mumbai is the cosmopolitan city with the potpourri of cultures and glamour. Mumbai still is a must for travelers and is, to a certain extent, a match for cities such as Paris and London .
Once a cluster of seven islands of Colaba, Mumbai, Mazagaon, Old Woman's island, Wadala, Mahim, Parel and Matunga Sion, inhabited by the Koli fishing community, Mumbai today is the financial capital of India. The islands were ruled by a succession of Hindu dynasties, followed by Muslims and then by Portuguese. In 1662, these islands were given to the English King Charles II. Bombay became an important trading center and port city after it was given to the East India Company in 1668.

Besides its night life activities, Mumbai has a plenty of cultural, religious and other interesting sites that are worth visiting for the tourists.
The Prince of Wales Museum is one of the best museums in the country with the art, sculpture, old firearms, and rare coins and a priceless collection of miniature paintings on display.
The Gateway of India is a monument built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911. It is complete with four turrets and intricate latticework carved into the yellow basalt stone. You haven't actually been to Bombay if you haven't seen the Gateway to India . At the same time, it's the place where you can catch a boat to the Elephanta Island , a UNESCO world heritage site where you can see rock-cut temples and caves dating back to the 6th century.
The Marine Drive is the popular sea front having a long stretch of curved road with tall buildings on one side and sea on the other. It is also called the Queen's Necklace because of sparkling nightlights along its curved shape. It is the nicest area in Mumbai to have a stroll and relax in the cool breeze of evening hours.
The Juhu and Chowpatty Beaches are the most famous beaches offering all the ingredients of beach activities like camel and pony rides, acrobats etc. together with a wonderful view of the coast.
The Hutatma Chowk area has a large concentration of impressive and important historical buildings, such as the fabulous Town Hall in neo-classical style
Mani Bhawan used to be former residence of Mahatma Gandhi in Mumbai. It is heavy on memorabilia with more than 2000 books and other of the Mahatma's belongings.
Tower of Silence are the open grounds, where the Parsis leave the dead bodies of the deceased, to be eaten by vultures. It attracts a number of visitors from the world over.
Hanging Gardens and Kamla Nehru Park are located opposite each other. Both the gardens provide lovely views of the dusk over the Arabian Sea . The latter has the famous "Old Woman's Shoe" that is a delightful for all the children.
The Jain Temple has a black marble shrine decorated with celestial personifications of the planets. It also houses frescoes depicting various events in the lives of the 24 Jain Tirthankaras.

Some of the interesting excursion sites around Mumbai are Bassein Fort, Sanjay Gandhi National Park , Lonavala, Khandala, Matheran, the famous Caves of Elephanta, Karla and Kanheri.
